TODAY'S PHOTO -
a Little Green Heron chick expecting food at sunset.
This Little Green Heron is about 2 weeks older than the ones we saw as eggs in Vol. 2 - Issue 35. The latter were hatched about 2 1/2 weeks ago.
I was standing on the boardwalk at Wakodahatchee Wetlands, marveling at how quickly these birds grow. I was also reflecting on how calm and still the Little Green Herons always seem to be, so at peace.
Suddenly, quite high above us, a Little Green Heron flew by. It was probably the mother because this bird's mouth shoot open momentarily and then closed when no parent or food appeared. He/she settled back with ease to his/her former state.
SELF-REFLECTING QUERIES -
I include this photo today, in part, because I neglected to acknowledge the then-upcoming Mother's Day holiday that so many of you were undoubtedly going to celebrate this past Sunday. I hope you had a good one.
The bird reminded me of the expectations children so often have of their mothers. Many times these expectations are not fulfilled. More than likely, the human child's response is far different from the calm and accepting one of the Little Green Heron.
What about our own responses as adults? What happens to you when your expectations are unfulfilled? Do you peacefully accept, as did the Little Green Heron in our photo today? Do you rant and rave? or Do you "stuff it?" What other behaviors? And, most importantly, if you have any of the other than "accepting it" behaviors, how do you move yourself forward?
For me, after I do whatever self-defeating things I might do, I will move on to one or more of the following: speaking with someone, writing and/or simply getting into action to transform the situation or I may move on to something totally different.
Belated Happy Mother's Day to those of you to whom it applies.
