TODAY'S PHOTO -
Moonshine spills over
Down below the clay roof tiles
Stark contrast bright shapes**

Out for a walk with my camera last night, I was playing with nighttime settings on it. Since this was the first photo I took on the walk, I think it was simply on the automatic setting, probably with the flash.

The line streaking down was an unexpected bonus when I downloaded the photos into my computer. Among the things that excite me about this photo, in addition to the unexpected, are the starkness of the colors and the contrast.

I'm also intrigued with the way the curves in the vertical splash of light repeat the horizontal curves of the roof tiles.

LIGHTS OUT IN OTHER PORTIONS OF OUR WORLD -
The other day I received an email from Silke Liria Blumbach, a Picture to Ponder subscriber, who lives in Albania. She described the near collapse of the country with an energy crisis, stating that every day during working hours and later, there are power cuts of 10 - 20 hours a day.

In her beloved city of Saranda she has created, "We Are the Light," a project of empowerment. She went on to say:

"Under the title 'The others are the light - Solidarity', I collect letters, texts, poems etc. of people from abroad about the situation in Albania or about the symbolism of darkness and light. Foreigners are highly respected in Albania, so by expressing your solidarity in writing, you do make a difference and do bring light to this beautiful country with its generous people."

Given the power outage concerns here in South FLorida and the recent issues of Picture to Ponder which have focused on sunlight and now moonlight, I thought it fitting to put out Silke's request. I also created a page on my site where you can read her full letter. See ALBANIA.

I did not think to request Silke's permission to include her e-mail address so until I do that, should you be moved to write, you can send your writings to me, which I will forward to her, or post your COMMENTS directly to the Picture to Ponder BLOG, November 11th post.

SELF-REFLECTING QUERIES -
Have you considered lately the impact that light has on you? I know that I have a much higher energy when the sun is bright and during the longer days of light in June. Usually the switch from Daylight Savings to Standard time also has a slowing-down impact on me with "darkness" setting in earlier in the day.

Can you track your light rhythms? Have you found ways of compensating for the personal energy drain that may occur for you?

As I conclude my thoughts here, I'm remembering some suggestions another friend and subscriber, Jodi Flesberg Lilly, made on her Light in Motion Weblog. See JODI'S BLOG the November 4th, "Thoughts on Scorpio" post. I found it altogether most interesting.

**HAIKU
Earlier this week I wrote my first Haiku among a small group of writers in a program with Julie Jordan Scott. Participants there forecast that I would be writing a lot more, so when I received the invitation later in the day from Mary Gray to join her new Haiku writing class, I followed the seed that had been planted and said, "Yes." There is still time for others of you to register for that course. See Mary's Haiku.
