TODAY'S PHOTO -
seed pods, one grouping a doll look-alike, the other
a flying bird.
I had several themes and photos in mind for today's
issue and at the end of a morning walk in Green
Cay Wetlands the image above caught my eye. On branch
of decayed seed pods I saw a straw doll, which reminded
me of the work of a craftsperson I know. I started
photographing it to send to her.
From the distance I was a little puzzled, not sure
whether it was decayed leaves or pods. As I explored
further, I saw a branch with yet-to-be opened pods.
This fresh green one looked like a bird in flight.
How excited I was! I absolutely love making discoveries,
experiencing something for the first time and this
was the first time I had noticed this plant. So
that you, too, can have the pleasure of the "bird"
I cut it out from another photo and placed it here,
toward the bottom on the left side. Notice the purple
wing tips and purple beak. There is even an eye
in the head!
Have fun making your own
discoveries within this photo.
SELF-REFLECTING QUERIES
-
Once again, I invite you to keep your eyes open
this week - actually your ears and all of your senses.
See, hear, taste or smell something that is completely
new for you.
How do you capture and savor that experience (assuming
that you, too, get excited when you make a discovery)?
Will you write about it? Draw? Paint? Photograph?
or simply commit it to your memory in some way.
I am currently thinking about, and working on, an
article on feelings and my different forms of expression
and how they are related, or not. The seed for this
came about yesterday when, in Julie Jordan Scott's
42 Day Writing program, I wrote about a juicy canteloupe,
responding to the prompt, "I am completely
refreshed when I taste..." See it on my Inspirational
Creations Blog.
I loved the experience that my words recreated and
decided I wanted to photograph the glistening canteloupe.
What I found, after 50+ photos, is that I was attempting
to illustrate my words. The emotion was missing
in the photography.
Again, pay attention to how you respond this week
to things that you are passionate about. Honor that
form of self-expression.
